Software & Bioinformatics Developer (Student, 6 months) – Tel Aviv, Israel

Please note: This is a part-time student position (20 hours/week) intended for candidates currently enrolled in a university program.

As a Software & Bioinformatics Developer (Student) here at Illumina (Emedgene) in Tel Aviv, you’ll join a collaborative and agile development team focused on advancing our software platform that supports cutting-edge genomic technologies. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in both software engineering and bioinformatics, contributing to real-world applications that impact scientific discovery and healthcare innovation. You’ll work closely with developers, QA engineers, and customer success teams, all while receiving mentorship and support to grow your technical and professional skills.

Why You

You’re a curious and motivated student pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or a related technical field, with at least two semesters completed. You’re eager to learn and contribute in a dynamic, team-oriented environment. You bring a foundational understanding of coding—especially in Python—and are comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively. Your interest in bioinformatics, data processing, or scientific computing sets you apart, and any experience with front-end technologies or databases is a plus. Strong communication skills and fluency in English will help you thrive in our global, cross-functional teams.

Your Role & Responsibilities

As a student team member, you will play an active role in the development, support, and maintenance of our software platform. This includes:

  • Contributing to software development:
    • Design, implement, test and automate new features and tools.
    • Enhance existing codebases and workflows in collaboration with our development team.
    • Participate in the full software development lifecycle.
  • Providing platform support and operational maintenance:
    • Assist in resolving bugs, technical issues, and customer-reported problems.
    • Support quality assurance and documentation efforts.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams: development, QA, and customer success.
    • Gain hands-on experience with real-world applications in software and bioinformatics.
    • Work in an agile, team-oriented environment with mentoring and learning opportunities.
You Are

  • A student in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or a related technical field.
  • Familiar with or interested in bioinformatics, data processing, and scientific computing.
  • Curious, motivated, and eager to learn in a dynamic development environment.
  • Comfortable with basic coding concepts – especially in Python.
  • A strong communicator with good interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Fluent in verbal and written English.
  • Experience with front-end technologies or databases is an advantage.

Requirements

  • At least 2 semesters completed in your undergraduate studies.
  • Availability to work 20 hours per week during the semester.
  • Willingness to grow in both software development and bioinformatics application domains.
