QEDMA is a quantum computing startup building breakthrough software to push the boundaries of what’s possible with quantum hardware. Backed by investment from IBM and Glilot Capital Partners, our team includes world-class physicists, engineers, and developers working together to turn cutting-edge research into real-world impact.
We are seeking an experienced software engineering leader with strong technical expertise and a proven ability to lead high-performing teams. As a member of QEDMA’s senior leadership team, you will help shape both the company’s long-term direction and its internal culture. You will work closely with founders, researchers, and product to drive execution, scale the team, and deliver robust, production-ready systems.
Position Overview
As Head of Engineering, you will lead a team of top-tier engineers and algorithm developers responsible for building and delivering the infrastructure and software of QEDMA’s products. This includes systems that run on QEDMA's cloud and on-premise environments and integrate with quantum computers (such as IBM’s) around the world. You will define, own and execute the engineering roadmap, oversee day-to-day operations, manage version releases, and identify and adopt technologies that accelerate development and scale.
Responsibilities

- Lead, mentor, and scale a high-performing engineering team
- Guide technical execution and architecture decisions across the stack
- Collaborate with researchers, physicists, and external partners to bring advanced quantum capabilities into production
- Ensure timely delivery of reliable, scalable, and maintainable software systems
- Foster a strong engineering culture grounded in accountability, technical rigor, and curiosity
- Contribute to strategic planning as part of QEDMA’s senior leadership team
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience leading engineering teams, preferably in deep-tech or research-driven domains
- Strong mentoring and team-building skills
- Solid background in backend systems and software architecture
- Experience with large-scale software development (Python preferred), CI/CD, and cloud/on-prem infrastructure
- Broad knowledge of modern technologies that enhance scalability, reliability, and developer velocity, with a proven ability to evaluate and adopt them effectively
- Familiarity with orchestration tools like Kubernetes, and with distributed or performance-critical systems
- Experience collaborating with research teams or working in scientifically complex environments
- Ability to define and manage technical roadmaps and resource planning
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage across technical, customer-facing, and executive audiences
- Comfortable working in a startup or fast-paced environment with shifting priorities
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (Mathematics or an advanced degree in Physics is a plus)
