Job Title: Senior Data Scientist/Algorithm Developer

– Medical Device Startup

Location: In office/Hybrid may be considered for exceptional candidates.

Company: StimCardio Medical Inc. (CardiaCare)

About Us

We are a fast moving, well-funded medical device startup, developing breakthrough therapies for atrial fibrillation using neuromodulation technology combined with advanced monitoring capabilities. The company has already successfully completed two clinical trials with excellent results and is now conducting its next phase of trials. As we move forward, we are building advanced algorithms to further optimize treatment and improve patients’ lives.

The Role

We are looking for a seasoned yet hands-on Algorithm Developer / Data Scientist to join our small, multidisciplinary team. This role combines scientific rigor, startup agility, and regulatory discipline: you’ll design, implement, and validate algorithms while ensuring they meet FDA and international regulatory standards. While your primary focus will be on developing and validating advanced algorithms, we value a true startup mindset — someone who isn’t afraid to roll up their sleeves and dive into annotation, preprocessing, or other “dirty work” when the situation calls for it. You’ll be working in a tight-knit team environment, collaborating closely with the CTO and other C-suite leaders, giving you direct influence on both the technical and strategic direction of the company.

Responsibilities

  • Explore and analyze large-scale ECG datasets to discover actionable clinical insights.
  • Develop, test, and validate algorithms for signal processing, anomaly detection, and treatment optimization.
  • Roll up your sleeves for early phase annotation, preprocessing, and quality control of datasets.
  • Work under FDA-compliant quality assurance processes for algorithm development, testing, documentation, and traceability
  • Collaborate with clinicians, engineers, and product teams to translate findings into deployable product features.
  • Establish best practices for dataset management and algorithm validation.
  • Contribute to regulatory submissions and clinical validation studies.
  • Build scalable and efficient algorithms that can be seamlessly integrated into a production environment

Qualifications

  • PhD or MSc in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in signal processing and/or machine learning, preferably applied to biomedical signals.
  • Expertise in ECG/PPG analysis, arrhythmia detection, or cardiovascular modeling.
  • Proficiency in Python (NumPy, SciPy, scikit-learn, TensorFlow/PyTorch) or similar frameworks.
  • Experience working with raw, noisy physiological data, including annotation and labeling.
  • [Bonus] Strong understanding (or willingness to master) FDA/CE regulatory requirements for algorithm development (21 CFR Part 11, validation protocols, traceability).
  • Ability to thrive in a startup environment — flexible, proactive, and collaborative.

Key Personal Traits

  • Hands-on and pragmatic: willing to dive into raw data, annotation, and testing as much as building high-level models.
  • Detail-oriented: understands the importance of traceability, reproducibility, and regulatory compliance.
  • Startup mindset: adaptable, resourceful, and motivated to build processes from scratch when needed.
  • Impact-driven: inspired by improving patient lives and advancing cardiovascular care.
  • Collaborative: enjoys working closely with engineers, clinicians, and business teams in a multidisciplinary environment.

Why Join Us?

  • Be an early and central hire, shaping both the algorithmic and regulatory foundation of our product.
  • Work across the full lifecycle of algorithms — from raw signals to FDA-cleared features.
  • Have a direct impact on clinical outcomes for patients with atrial fibrillation.
  • Join a well-funded, passionate, and agile startup with proven clinical success.
  • Competitive compensation with growth potential, including the opportunity to direct the data science development vector in the company.
