Your Mission
As an AI Solution Architect, you will set the architectural patterns, frameworks, and infrastructure choices once, so that every team and every build doesn't reinvent them. You will decide what is reusable across the programme, what is bespoke to a single build, and what data and AI infrastructure is shared. The output of this role is durability — enabling the team to move fast while ensuring solutions compound on each other instead of fragmenting into a collection of disconnected, bespoke architectures that become costly to maintain.
Responsibilities
Architectural Patterns & Standards
- Define and document the reference patterns for agentic systems (RAG, evaluation harnesses, agent frameworks, memory, observability) that every build inherits by default and deviates from only with explicit reasoning.
- Maintain these patterns as a living standard, updating them as the programme learns and as the AI landscape evolves.
Infrastructure & Technology Decisions
- Select and standardise core infrastructure - vector stores, model routing, agent orchestration tooling, and data infrastructure - making these decisions once for the programme rather than repeatedly per build.
- Maintain a forward-looking view of which AI capabilities, models, and infrastructure the programme will need over the coming year.
Reusability & Shared Components
- For each new component a team proposes, determine whether it is bespoke to a single build, reusable across teams, or platform-grade - and build the reusable pieces into a shared library.
- Curate and grow a shared library of reusable code, prompts, agents, and evaluation harnesses that all teams build on.
Technical Review & Risk Management
- Provide architectural review and sign-off on initiatives before they proceed to build and before they ship, flagging deviations from established patterns and surfacing risks on technical grounds.
- Make decisions with incomplete information and revisit them as the programme learns.
Cross-Team Coordination
- When separate delivery teams hit similar problems, route them to the same solution and prevent architectural drift between them.
- Ensure consistency and knowledge-sharing across teams so that solutions remain interoperable.
External Technical Partnership
- Serve as the primary technical interface with vendors, model providers, and external AI partners.
- Represent the organisation's AI architecture publicly when needed.
What This Role Owns
- AI Architecture Reference - the single canonical document describing the programme's chosen patterns; a living artefact updated as the programme learns.
- Architectural sign-off -final architectural approval on every initiative before it proceeds to build and before it ships.
- Shared component library - reusable code, prompts, agents, and evaluation harnesses that every team builds on.
- Model and infrastructure roadmap - a 12-month forward view of the AI capabilities, models, and infrastructure the programme will require.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of engineering experience, including at least 3 years architecting multi-system production AI deployments (not proofs of concept).
- Hands-on experience with agentic frameworks (LangGraph, AutoGen, or custom orchestration) and a willingness to keep coding alongside the team.
- Production experience with RAG systems, vector stores, and AI evaluation harnesses.
- Strong, well-reasoned opinions on AI architecture trade-offs, with the ability to defend them in front of engineering, product, and executive audiences.
- A track record of building reusable platform components that other teams adopted.
- Comfortable making decisions with incomplete information and revisiting them as understanding evolves.
Nice to Have
- Experience in payments, fintech, or another regulated industry (data sensitivity, audit trails, compliance).
- Experience scaling AI systems beyond the initial proof-of-concept phase to production at multi-tenant scale.
- Exposure to LLM cost optimisation and model routing in production.
- Open-source contributions in the AI/agentic ecosystem.
