Head of Engineering
PayPlus is looking for an exceptional Head of Engineering to lead and scale our engineering organization and help build the technology behind the next generation of payments and commerce.
This is a senior leadership position with responsibility for engineering execution, organizational excellence and the development of mission-critical systems operating at scale.
You will lead Engineering Managers, Team Leads and senior engineers across multiple domains and work closely with Product, Architecture, DevOps, Security and executive management.
We’re looking for a leader who combines strong management capabilities with deep technical understanding — someone who can build high-performing teams, drive complex execution and maintain extremely high engineering standards.
What You’ll Own
- Lead the PayPlus engineering organization across multiple development teams
- Manage, mentor and develop Engineering Managers, Team Leads and senior technical leaders
- Own engineering execution, delivery and operational excellence
- Translate company and product strategy into clear engineering priorities, roadmaps and execution plans
- Build and evolve the engineering organizational structure as PayPlus continues to scale
- Establish clear ownership, accountability and measurable engineering goals
- Drive predictable execution of large, cross-functional and cross-team initiatives
- Partner with Architecture on major technical decisions and long-term platform strategy
- Ensure engineering standards across scalability, reliability, performance, security and maintainability
- Lead hiring, organizational growth and development of future engineering leaders
- Own engineering capacity planning and resource allocation
- Ensure effective collaboration between Engineering, Product, DevOps, Security, Support and business teams
- Drive technical and organizational postmortems after major production incidents
- Identify technical debt, architectural risks and organizational bottlenecks before they impact the business
- Engineering Execution & Jira Management
- A key part of this role is creating a disciplined, transparent and measurable engineering execution process.
You will:
- Manage engineering execution and delivery through Jira
- Ensure engineering work is properly structured, prioritized, assigned and tracked
- Maintain visibility into epics, projects, sprints, milestones and releases
- Ensure every major initiative has clear ownership, scope, dependencies and delivery targets
- Work closely with Product to maintain a healthy and prioritized backlog
- Drive sprint, capacity and release planning across multiple teams
- Monitor progress, blockers, dependencies and delivery risks
- Build and maintain Jira dashboards that provide clear visibility into engineering execution
- Track engineering metrics such as cycle time, lead time, throughput and delivery predictability
- Monitor team capacity and workload
- Identify bottlenecks early and drive resolution
- Ensure bugs, production issues and technical debt are visible and prioritized
- Establish consistent Jira workflows and delivery standards across teams
- Ensure work is properly defined before entering development
- Drive accountability without creating unnecessary bureaucracy
- Provide executive management with clear visibility into delivery status, risks and expected outcomes
- Jira should reflect reality.
- If engineering work is happening, it should be visible, owned and measurable.

Leadership Profile
You are a leader who understands both people and technology.
You know how to build strong management layers instead of becoming the bottleneck yourself.
You don’t need to write production code every day, but you can sit with senior engineers and architects, understand a system design and challenge technical decisions when necessary.
You understand that engineering leadership is not just about meetings and status updates.
You know what is being built, who owns it, where it stands, what is blocking it and when it is expected to reach production.
You create accountability without micromanagement.
You bring structure without slowing the organization down.
You use data instead of assumptions.
And you understand that in a payments company, reliability, security, execution and engineering quality are all part of the product.
